Berkeley Restaurant Corpus

This English corpus was collected thanks to a Wizard of Oz system. The aim was to collect naturalistic data from native and non-native speakers in a semi-quiet office. It was recorded digitally at 16 kHz sampling rate using a Sennheiser close-talking microphone.

Native languages: American English, German, Italian, British English, Hebrew, Mandarin, French, Spanish and Japanese.

This data was collected in the Berkeley Restaurant Project, which aimed at developing a medium-vocabulary, speaker-independent, spontaneous continuous speech understanding system. The BeRP system was designed to function as a knowledge consultant whose domain is restaurants in Berkeley (California).
