Spoken Corpus of British English
The Spoken Corpus of British English (SCRIBE) provides read and spontaneous speech by male and female speakers from four different areas in the UK: South East, Glasgow, Leeds and Birmingham. SCRIBE stands for Spoken Corpus Recordings In British English.
The database is divided into two target corpora subsets:
- Many Talker Corpus (120 talkers),
- Few Talker Corpus (30 talkers).
The read speech consists of phonetically rich sentences, phonetically compact sentences and a two-minute continuous passage. The spontaneous speech consists of giving a verbal description of a picture.
Recordings were made in an anechoic chamber using both a close talking microphone and a condenser microphone, with a 16 bit resolution and a sampling rate of 20 kHz for each channel.
Text files contain phonetic annotation and labelling data in standard SAM format.
