Nijmegen Corpus of Casual French
The Nijmegen Corpus of Casual French (NCCFr) contains more than 35 hours of recordings from 46 French speakers (24 female, 22 male) engaged in conversations with friends.
The casual conversations elicited were recorded in sessions of about 90 minutes between a confederate (not recorded) and two of his friends of the same sex: the naïve speakers.
Each session is divided into three parts:
1) the confederate pretended that his microphone did not work properly, which resulted in an unexpected situation: the naïve speakers did not know with certainty whether the recording had begun (20 minutes),
2) free conversation between the confederate and his friends (around 35 minutes),
3) negotiation of a common position for the group on general interest questions (around 35 minutes).
The audio part has been orthographically transcribed (469,484 word tokens, 15,574 word types).
The corpus also contains video data, which can be used for further studies related to facial and body gestures during verbal communication.
Such a corpus can be used to study inter-speaker variation, within-speaker variability, ...
