Cambridge and Nottingham Corpus of Discourse in English
The Cambridge and Nottingham Corpus of Discourse in English (CANCODE) forms a part of the Cambridge International Corpus (CIC).
It contains the transcription of hours of spontaneous speech collected at hundreds of locations across the British Isles between 1995 and 2000, for a total amount of 5 million words.
Data have been recorded in a wide variety of situations: casual conversation, people working together, people shopping, people finding out information, discussions, etc.
An interesting feature of CANCODE is that it has been annotated with the relationship between the speakers: intimates (living together), casual acquaintances, colleagues at work or strangers. It makes it possible to study how these levels of familiarity affect the way in which people speak to each other.
