Corpus of Early Ontario English
The Corpus of Early Ontario English covers the period from the earliest Ontarian English texts to the end of the 19th century. It contains approximately 225,000 words from diaries, newspapers, official letters, etc. (informal register as well as formal writing).
It is divided along temporal (periods of 25 years) and social criteria.
It contains a sub-part called the CONTE pre-Confederation section (CONTE-pC) consisting of three periods (1776-1799, 1800-1824 and 1825-1849) for a total of 125,000 words.
The genres, sampling sizes and periodization enable comparisons with other historical varieties of English (represented in the ARCHER for example).
