The Corpus of Early English Correspondence
This 2,7 million word corpus is a collection of English letters from 1410 to 1681 (more than 6000 letters, written by nearly 800 individuals). It was designed for research in historical sociolinguistics.
Today the corpus name refers to a family of corpora derived from this first collection.
The CEECS (Sampler) is the first published version of the CEEC (in 1998). It contains 450,000 words and covers the period from 1418 to 1680. It has known several extensions since : the PCEEC (a parsed version which has been published in 2006), the CEECExtension (from 1681 to 1800) and the CEECSupplement.
For more information on published versions, see U-W 0002 for the CEECS and U-W 0003 for the PCEEC.
