Santiago University Learner of English Corpus
This corpus is composed of written and spoken data collected from Spanish learners of English (all levels: elementary, intermediate and advanced). It contains 500.000 words and the aim is to achieve 1 million words.
Spoken data: semi-structured interviews, short oral presentations and brief story descriptions recorded in audio and occasionally in video format.
Written data: compositions or argumentative essays following criteria similar to those of the ICLE (International Corpus of Learner English).
All the data will be transcribed, computerised and tagged.
The aim of the SULEC project is to compile a large corpus of real language, spoken and written, produced by Spanish learners of English.
This corpus will make it possible to perform investigations at different levels: phonological, morphosyntactic, lexical, discursive.
It can be a resource of great value for the fields of Translation and Computer Assisted Language Learning (CALL).
