Finnish Toponymic Database

This is a database which contains 250,000 toponymic entries covering 40 regions in Finland. For the moment, about 10% of them have been converted to a computer format. It is still under development.

Each toponym is stored in the database with the following information:
- toponym in its standard-Finnish form,
- boundaries of the word components,
- structural type and/or formation of the toponym,
- dialectical variant,
- inflection,
- administrative status,
- location on the map (the map number and square),
- type of place,
- provenance of the toponym,
- comments on location,
- comments on type of place,
- parallel toponyms,
- relating toponyms,
- name of document.
