WordNet English
The Princeton Wordnet is a large lexical database of English that is considered to be a lexical reference system. Its design is inspired by current psycholinguistic theories of human lexical memory.
In a wordnet, which is basically a semantic network, the different lexical categories of words (nouns, verbs,..) are organised into 'synsets' (sets of synonyms). Each synset represents a lexical concept and they can be linked by different types of relation (hyperonymy, antonymy, etc.). For obvious reasons, all wordnets resort to the same system of synset identification.
It is a basic resource that can be used for computational linguistics purposes and language engineering applications (machine translation IE, WSD, knowledge representation, etc.).
